New large 25/280 portable compressor from Doosan

Doosan 25/280 portable compressor

Doosan Portable Power have launched the new large 25/280 portable compressor, which will be exhibited for the first time at Bauma 2013. The unit has a free air delivery of 28.3m3/min at a rated operating pressure of 25.1 bar, although dual-pressure regulation is a standard feature of the 25/280 compressor, allowing it to supply compressed air at operating pressures of both 25.1 or 17.2 bar.

This dual-pressure regulation capability expands the scope of applications for the 25/280 compressor, which includes powering a wide range of drilling and boring machines for quarrying, mining, site investigation, geothermal, mineral exploration, water well construction and shallow oil and gas projects, together with truck-mounted applications for quarry and water well drilling. The 25/280 compressor can also be used for other specialist applications such as abrasive blasting, spray painting and standby and temporary compressed air for industry.

Compliance with the Stage IIIB (Tier 4i) engine emission regulations has allowed Doosan to provide customers with a completely new design offering a much higher return on investment by combining reduced size and footprint, to minimize transport costs, with increased fuel efficiency, reliability and durability, plus improved service access to optimize maintenance work.

With a length (drawbar up/drawbar down) of 5,150/6,735mm, a width of 2,123mm and height of 2,553mm, the 25/280 compressor is 18% smaller than the current 25/330 Stage IIIA model, meeting a customer preference for both compact size and easy serviceability, and offering advantages for truck-mounted configurations.

New standard features that contribute to the easy serviceability and increased reliability and durability of the 25/280 compressor are single-row core heat exchangers for ease of cleaning; a cool box (blower fan) to reduce component temperatures; a fuel cooler to prevent fuel heating at low fuel reservoir levels, which can reduce fuel efficiency and power; central drains; a Galvanneal sheet-metal enclosure for optimal corrosion protection; and a new design to minimize ingress of rain into the enclosure.

Several additional features, such as multiple air outlets, a bunded environmental base offering 110% containment, and forklift slots, have also been incorporated as standard. The 25/280 compressor has a hot ambient capability of 49°C limiting ambient temperature (LAT) while a low-ambient option allows starting and operation down to –28°C with start aids, and to –10°C unaided.

The new 25/280 compressor is powered by the Caterpillar  C-13 diesel engine using cooled EGR with the Cat Clean Emission after-treatment system to meet the Stage IIIB regulations. The CAT C-13 engine provides 354kW (475hp) of power at 1,800 rev/min.

The move from the Cat C-15 engine in the current 25/330 model to the C-13 engine in the 25/280 model provides improved fuel economy and lower operating costs. The new compressor has two 340-litre fuel tanks on board, providing enough fuel for the machine to run at full load for 8h.

The 25/280 compressor has a completely new control system with a full-colour digital display and LED backlit gauges, providing full machine status, a fault code history and an integrated e-reader library pre-loaded with a full set of manuals for the machine. As well as the manuals in electronic form available on the display, an optional WiFi interface allows for live streaming of data to operators or to the laptop, tablet computer or smartphone of service technicians.
