New Hyundai machines clearing the way at Blackpool Zoo
MCW Plant using HX300 L and R125LCR excavators to carry out demolition job
THERE is a new impressive view for visitors to Blackpool Zoo, in Lancashire, after one of the former aircraft hangars on site was demolished by Manchester-based MCW Plant using a new 30-tonne Hyundai HX300 L excavator, which has been fitted with a Daemo DMS250 shear.
Clearing the debris from the pulled down hanger is a new 12.5-tonne Hyundai R125LCR-9A crawler excavator (equipped with a Daemo DMC140 pulverizer). Both new machines were supplied by local Hyundai dealers HES Enterprises of Irlam, near Manchester.
The hanger building, adjacent to the zoo’s main entrance building and play barn, was demolished following a safety inspection which deemed the structure unsafe and posed a serious hazard.
The demolished hangar was not in public use and plans are currently in place to build a new structure on the plot. With the old building gone, there will be a spectacular view of elephants at the zoo, including one of the largest indoor elephant experiences in the UK when it opens to the public this summer.
Mark Watson, managing director of MCW Plant, commented: ‘The Hyundai machines are very robust and ultra-reliable. We also have in our fleet a R16-9 mini with a breaker and grapple. The HX300 excavator is very powerful, even when operating in eco mode and the fuel-efficiency is second to none, which is a major concern these days with fuel costs rising.
‘The cab in the HX300 is very comfortable and visibility is spot on in this machine. For example, the AAVM all-round vision camera is superb especially when working in a tight spot.’
He continued ‘We also have a Daemo crusher, selector grab and breaker, as well as a selection of buckets. It is so important these days to get maximum utilization out of plant and equipment and, with these attachments, the machines have become like a Swiss army knife.’
For the past two years, MCW Plant have been principal contractors on a number of high-profile demolition projects working with local authorities, including Blackpool Council, as well as customers in the private sector.
