New funding for CDW recycling infrastructure

WRAP (Waste & Resources Action Programme) is inviting applications to a new fund which supports the Government’s target of halving the amount of construction waste going to landfill by 2012.

The capital competition aims to stimulate investment in new or expanded facilities in England that will provide additional capacity to recycle construction, demolition and excavation waste from construction sites into reusable materials for reprocessors.

The programme will operate on a rolling basis and all projects must be fully operational by 31 March 2011. Value for money will be assessed against a number of criteria, including additional tonnage diverted from landfill.

Funds will operate under the de minimis State Aid Regulations and grants of up to £180,000 (and not exceeding 50% of the total eligible costs) will be available from 1 April 2010. The programme will close at the end of March 2011, after which no further funding will be available.

Examples of WRAP contributions could include: plant, equipment and infrastructure for projects that will significantly increase the quantity and quality of waste materials recovered, separated and recycled from construction and demolition sites.

Businesses interested in applying should visit the funding section on the WRAP website. There is no closing date for applications, although the funding is finite and will be available on a first-come, first-served basis.
