New concept in cab seating

Sears Seating say they have produced a seat that virtually eliminates harmful body mass vibrations while also providing other benefits to aid operator productivity.

The Sears D8090VRS Semi-Active seat uses computer controlled electromagnetic/ air-cushion suspension to reduce vibrations to below 0.5Hz. Developed to help industry meet the new Physical Agents Directive (PAD) legislation scheduled for introduction in 2007, the VRS seat meets the limits of ‘operator body mass vibration exposure levels.’ The seat reduces potential vibration transfer to the operator by at least 40% (up to 90% reduction can be achieved) when compared to other air-suspension seats.

By reducing vibration frequency to less than 0.75Hz, the operator is protected from any harmful effects resulting from excessive vibrations. The reduced level of vibration also improves ride comfort, resulting in less fatigue, increased productivity and faster travel times.

Although most advanced seats can only be fitted by an OEM during production, Sears Seating have engineered a solution that allows the new seats to be retrofitted. The result is a complete package that is bolted in place of the standard seat with little, if any, re-engineering work.

The ergonomically designed high backrest features a fully adjustable headrest to provide extra comfort. By adjusting exactly to body height, it prevents damage from bad posture and reduces the onset of fatigue, even during long periods behind the controls. It can be adjusted in 11 steps between 495mm and 700mm. There is also a fully adjustable armrest that features substantial foam padding on the inside of the arm, greatly improving comfort when turning in the seat.

The air lumbar support quickly moulds itself for optimum comfort, reducing potential damage to the operator’s spine. A ride selector offers three levels of firmness for each automatically computer-assessed ride file so that the operator can select the optimum personal comfort level. The seat can be adjusted up and down, forwards and backwards, and angled back.
