Acquisition of Lagan Group will add two new Irish divisions to the company’s existing three divisions

BREEDON have revealed further details of the new-look group structure following their £455 million acquisition of Belfast-based Lagan Group (Holdings) Ltd, which is scheduled to complete tomorrow (Friday 20 April).

The acquisition will add two new divisions – Breedon Northern Ireland and Breedon Republic of Ireland – to the group’s existing three – Breedon Northern, Breedon Southern and Breedon Cement.

Under the new structure, Alan Mackenzie will continue as managing director of Breedon Northern, and Mike Pearce, who recently joined Breedon from Aggregate Industries, will continue as managing director of Breedon Southern. Lagan’s Welsh Slate business will be integrated into Breedon Southern under Mr Pearce.

Jude Lagan, who currently runs Lagan Products, will be appointed as managing director of Breedon Cement, which will encompass all of the group’s cementitious operations in the UK and Ireland.

Terry Lagan, who currently runs Lagan’s business in the Republic of Ireland, will be appointed as managing director of Breedon Republic of Ireland, and Mark Kelly, who currently runs Whitemountain in NI, will be appointed as managing director of Breedon Northern Ireland.

With the addition of Lagan’s facilities, Breedon will be one of the leading construction materials groups in the UK and Ireland, with two cement plants, around 70 quarries, 40 asphalt plants, 200 ready-mixed concrete and mortar plants, nine concrete and clay products plants, four contract surfacing businesses, six import/export terminals and two slate production facilities.
