New App for measuring belt pre-tension

ContiTech Tension2Go mobile app

ContiTech launch ‘Tension2Go’ free mobile application for iPhone and Android smartphones

USING this new, practical mobile phone application for use on site, quarry operators can quickly determine whether conveyor belt pre-tension is correct.

The free Tension2Go application is designed to measure the pre-tension frequency and pretension of industrial belts from the ContiTech Power Transmission Group.

‘Tension2Go quickly lets field staff, technical dealers and end-users know whether the belt pre-tension is correct when the belt is first installed, being serviced or during trouble-shooting,’ explained Dirk Bartsch-Kuszewski, head of industry application engineering with the ContiTech Power Transmission Group.

The app is offered a cost-efficient supplement to existing pre-tension measuring devices, although ContiTech point out that it does not replace such devices.

In operation, the app measures the natural frequency of the belt. To achieve this, the microphone of the smartphone is held above the free belt section and the belt is set into vibration so that the airborne noise can be recorded. Using the frequency value that is determined, the user can then select the pre-tensioning force.

Alternatively, Tension2Go can calculate the tension of the belt directly if the belt type and the length of the free belt section has been entered before the measurement is taken.

Tension2Go is available for the iOS 6 and Android 2.2 operating systems and can be downloaded from the App Store or Google Play.
