Nature After Minerals releases details of species conservation site visits in September and October

NATURE After Minerals (NAM), the partnership programme led by the RSPB with support from Natural England, the MPA and the BAA, has released details of its 2016 autumn events programme.

Focusing on priority species conservation through the appropriate and sustainable restoration and management of minerals sites for biodiversity gain, the following one-day events have been arranged during September and October:

  • Bumblebee conservation on mineral sites within the wider landscape – 21 September, Torr Quarry, Somerset.
  • Bats and more on the urban fringe – 29 September, Panshanger Park, Hertfordshire (plus optional early evening bat walk).
  • Retaining the scrub for willow tits – 6 October, Willington Gravel Pits, Derbyshire.
  • Wetlands for waders and windows for people – 26 October, Nosterfield Local Nature Reserve, North Yorkshire.

All four events are aimed at providing best-practice advice and stimulating discussion for all stakeholders with an interest in mineral site restoration and land management for biodiversity gain.

Each event will include, as appropriate: an indoor morning session and afternoon site visit with experienced land-management advisers and guest speakers; opportunities to network and share experiences with other stakeholders in the field of mineral site restoration; information packs with complementary literature and advice on priority habitat creation and species conservation; and refreshments and a light buffet lunch.

Limited places are available for all four events on a first-come, first-served basis, with each event costing a nominal £40 + VAT. To reserve/book a place, please see the attached booking form for further details.

The Autumn 2016 events will be followed by a further programme of events planned for Spring 2017.
