MPQC and MPS Academy sign formal agreement

THE Mineral Products Qualifications Council Awarding Body (MPQC) and the National Skills Academy for Materials, Production & Supply (MPS Academy) have recently signed a contract for the provision of a range of accreditation services in the extractive and mineral processing industries.

David Sharman, chairman of MPQC, and Terry Watts, chief executive officer of Proskills Sector Skills Council, on behalf of the MPS Academy, formally exchanged the agreement at the Extractive & Mineral Processing Industry Board meeting on 11 August 2009.

The agreement will see MPQC, on behalf of the MPS Academy, accrediting all non-qualification based training and qualification delivery into the extractive and mineral processing sector. The MPS Academy will ensure only that provision which reaches the standards expected by industry receives the MPS Academy quality kite-mark.

‘MPS Academy will ensure that the standards of performance in the training and qualifications marketplace are maintained at a high level and provide employers with the confidence in being able to select from trusted and quality-assured provision,’ commented David Sharman. ‘Especially in the current trading conditions, resources can ill-afford to be used on training that does not deliver the required and expected learning outcomes – with the MPS Academy this will now be a thing of the past.’

Commenting on the agreement, Terry Watts, said: ‘The National Skills Academy is led by employers to ensure provision is focused entirely on the needs of industry delivering excellence for employers in learning, training and education leading to improved efficiency, productivity and enabling individuals to achieve and continually improve their skills and knowledge.’

Training providers will also benefit from the establishment of the MPS Academy. The MPS Academy will promote accredited companies and products directly to named contacts across the sector. It will also offer sales lead generation, networking opportunities and access to new markets.
