Summary data now aligned with Mineral Products Association’s seven main strategic priorities

THE Mineral Products Association (MPA) has published its Summary Sustainable Development Data for 2017, which covers a range of data from 2016 (see attachment below).

Following the launch of the MPA Charter in 2017, the data is now aligned with the Association’s seven main strategic priorities and the corresponding objectives and targets.

Key data includes:

  • Recycled and secondary materials accounted for 29% of the GB aggregates market
  • Carbon dioxide emissions per tonne of cement production fell by 2%. CO2 emissions increased for aggregates and asphalt production and declined for ready-mixed concrete
  • MPA recorded the creation of 6,000ha of priority habitat to date with a further 8,700ha of priority habitat creation planned
  • Around 30 million tonnes of aggregates were delivered by rail and water transport
  • The average road delivery distance for aggregates was 30.1 miles.

Nigel Jackson, chief executive of the Mineral Products Association, said: ‘The MPA supports the industry’s continuing commitment to measuring and reporting data, and to transparency on performance.

‘The reporting process is now evolving to reflect the seven strategic priorities set out in the MPA Charter and as part of this process we will be working to further improve the quality and coverage of our sustainability data.

‘We believe that the activities of our industry, from extraction to manufacturing to recycling and land restoration, are consistent with the movement towards a more circular economy.

‘We appreciate that we need to provide data and information both to inform and help improve industry performance and to work meaningfully with our stakeholders, and will continue to do so.’
