Motors and drives for new quarry operations

Teco Westinghouse have supplied motors and drives to operate crushers at Tarmac Northern's new quarry plant development at Linton, North Yorkshire, which will process up to 2 million tonnes of limestone a year when it comes into operation later this year.

Teco Westinghouse were awarded the contract by the main contractor, Fairport Engineering. The contract included the supply, testing and commissioning of motors and drives plus operator training and ongoing service.

A 2,000kVA ONAN 11kV to 690V stepdown/phase-shift transformer with integral primary ring main unit was supplied, together with secondary MCCBs, 12-pulse variable-speed Optim drives rated at 450kW and 1,000kW, and six-pole 690V cage induction motors with inverter-rated insulation systems.
