MIST announces seventh call for proposals

THE Mineral Industry Sustainable Technology Programme (MIST), which is managed by the Mineral Industry Research Organisation (MIRO) on behalf of DEFRA, has announced its seventh call for proposals for research and development projects on environmental aspects of UK minerals industries.

Owing to delays in the awarding of funding, MIST is keen to point out that this particular call is only open for a period of three weeks, with the deadline for submission being 17 December 2008. Proposals are invited in seven theme areas:

  • impact of quarrying on the water environment
  • dust, noise and vibration
  • transport
  • planning and assessment of quarrying
  • optimizing efficiency of primary aggregate production
  • sustainable utilization of quarry by-products
  • creating environmental improvements through biodiversity.

The MIST programme is operated with funding from the Aggregate Levy Sustainability Fund (ALSF) and is open to both public and private sector organizations, including commercial organizations, academic institutions, public sector agencies and associations. Projects have to be delivered in England and MIST will provide a minimum funding of 50% of total eligible project costs.
