Metso to supply equipment for new WTE plant

Posco waste-to-energy plant in Poland

Finnish company to provide automation technology for new waste-to-energy plant in Poland

METSO have signed an agreement with Posco Engineering & Construction to supply automation equipment for a new waste-to-energy (WTE) plant currently under construction in Krakow, Poland.

Featuring advanced automation solutions, the plant will be able to efficiently control the process of turning waste into green energy, deliver high process availability and extract maximum energy value from the waste.

It will help the region dispose of waste according to high environmental standards, which are in line with national and European Union legislation, creating a new source of electricity and heat.

‘Metso has a strong project implementation organization with capable resources in Poland, as well as many references for waste energy in the world,’ said Jun Ho Moon, manager of energy business department for Posco Engineering & Construction, a South Korean construction firm who will deliver the WTE facility as a turnkey project.

The new plant has been designed to process and recover energy from a combination of construction, industrial and household waste. The facilities will be capable of incinerating approximately 680 tonnes of waste per day and approximately 220,000 tonnes a year. Power production capacity will amount to approximately 10.74 MW by using the heat from incineration. The WTE plant is scheduled to go on stream in November 2015.
