Lokotrack LT105 for Wordsworth Crushing

Lokotrack Central, the newly appointed third-party distributor for Metso Minerals’ Lokotrack track-mounted mobile crushers and screens for England and Wales, have celebrated their appointment with the sale of an LT105 to Wordsworth Crushing Ltd. The sale maintains a relationship between Lokotrack Central and Wordsworth that stretches back more than 13 years.

Barnsley-based Wordsworth Crushing have been a key player in the South Yorkshire area since the company was formed in 1982, but it was the company’s move into plant hire, demolition and contract crushing some six years later that put the family-owned concern firmly on the map. The latest contract facing the company was the demolition and site clearance of a former chemicals factory and storage depot at nearby Castleford to make way for 800 new homes and a retail park.

‘The Cinder Lane contract was particularly demanding on a number of levels,’ explained managing director Stephen Wordsworth. ‘The 32ha site had to be painstakingly cleared to remove any contaminated soil. We also had to contend with hidden hazards such as 5m basements. And, most importantly, all arisings from the demolition process had to be crushed, screened and stored on site for use as sub-base and foundation fill material.’

To complicate matters still further, Wordsworth needed an efficient crusher that could contend with the wide range of concrete, asphalt, brick and masonry at the site. ‘Central Crushers and Screens have been meeting virtually all our crushing equipment needs for around 13 years so they were the first people we spoke to,’ said Mr Wordsworth. ‘Our timing was perfect, as they had just been appointed as distributors for the Metso Minerals range of Lokotrack machines under the Lokotrack Central name, and they immediately introduced us to the LT105.’

Equipped with a field-proven C105 jaw crusher, this 41-tonne crusher is capable of throughputs up to 400 tonnes/h and is one of the most popular models in the Lokotrack range.

‘We purchased the LT105 almost entirely upon Lokotrack Central’s recommendation and we haven’t been disappointed,’ commented Mr Wordsworth. ‘It has proved to be a very good tool that is ideally suited to this current project.’

Equally enthusiastic about the company’s latest acquisition is crusher operator Bob Cox. ‘The LT105’s long conveyor makes stockpiling very easy and the machine is very manoeuvrable around site,’ he said. ‘The reversible jaws help prevent jamming and bridging, and the conveyor belts are extremely hard wearing. I am expecting maintenance and downtime to be very low.’
