Little Paxton Quarry brought back to life

Little Paxton Quarry

Aggregate Processing Solutions provide Aggregate Industries with bespoke washing plant solution

A QUARRY that had been dormant for six years has been brought back to life with a new high-performance CDE washing plant supplied by Aggregate Processing Solutions (APS).

Aggregate Industries invested in the purpose-built system for their Little Paxton Quarry, in Cambridgeshire, to wash sand and gravel for the production of concrete aggregates.

The highly engineered CDE system has been configured to a bespoke layout, bringing together standard modular relocatable units to create a tailor-made solution to suit the quarry’s exact requirements.

The plant features an S2910 static feed conveyor, an AggMax 252SR log-washer assembly, a ProGrade P2-42 twin-deck washing screen, an H1565 transfer conveyor and an EvoWash 151 triple-cyclone sand unit.

Other elements include six C1565 stockpilers, a ProGrade rinsing deck and sizing screen, and a Trackstack 8042 TSL sand stockpiling unit.

APS – the specialist washing arm of the Finlay Group of companies and a licensed partner to CDE Global – have introduced each of the components so that they all work in tune with one another for maximum performance.

The plant has also been designed to comply with the stringent environmental guidelines for the site, in accordance with its location adjacent to Paxton Pits Nature Reserve – a site of special scientific interest (SSSI).

This included specific height and noise restrictions, as well as a ‘Moorlands Green’ colour scheme designed to blend in with the local environment.

Having been operational for eight months, the plant is currently processing up to 200 tonnes/h to produce +75mm, 75–40mm, 40–20mm, 20–10mm and 20–5mm products, as and when required, as well as soft and sharp sands.

Aggregate Industries have a long-standing relationship with APS, who sell complete systems as well as providing contracting services and hiring-out processing equipment.

Duncan Hayden, assistant site manager at Little Paxton Quarry, commented: ‘As a company, we’ve been working with APS for around 10 years and they always meet our needs. The whole experience has been very good and we’re extremely happy with the new plant.’

Aggregate Industries currently have four contracts nationwide with APS, with the plant at Little Paxton operating on a ‘price-per-tonne’ basis.

John Dunne, managing director of APS, said: ‘It’s great that the quarry is back up and running, and I’m happy to see how pleased Aggregate Industries are with their new washing system.’
