Landfill tax funds major new wetland

Thanks to Robert Brett & Son and the Landfill Tax Credit Scheme, the RSPB have recently completed the purchase of their newest nature reserve at Shorne Marshes near Gravesend. Kent County Council also helped with the purchase of the 159ha wet grassland site by being the third party which provided the 10% trigger funding.

Mike Courts of Robert Brett & Sons said: 'As we are neighbours of Shorne Marshes we were naturally concerned that the site is managed properly, so we were only too pleased to help the RSPB purchase it. We look forward to watching the reserve develop and seeing how the site improves for wildlife.'

Chris Corrigan, the RSPB's south-east regional manager said: 'We are delighted with the support we have had for this purchase. It means that we can manage a significant chunk of the north Kent marshes for the benefit of birds and other wildlife. We shall also improve the perimeter footpath which provides views over Shorne Marshes.'

Robert Brett & Son have also supported conservation work at RSPB nature reserves at Dungeness and Blean Woods near Canterbury.
