Lafarge UK Budget response

Some welcome initiatives, but we have much more to do, says Richard Halderthay

LAFARGE UK have welcomed some of the specific announcements contained within last week’s Budget.

Richard Halderthay, head of communications for Lafarge Aggregates & Concrete UK, said: ‘The £250 million support package for first-time buyers to buy new homes, the postponement of the proposed £2.10 Aggregates Levy increase and the additional £100 million of funding for road repairs are all positive moves for our business, our industry and, importantly, will help us to help our customers remain competitive.

‘However, the rising cost of energy, together with long-term under-investment in our public infrastructure, especially in our roads and transport network and our hospitals and schools, needs to be addressed if we are to stimulate further economic activity and help the Government achieve improved and more efficient public services.’
