Lafarge launch revolutionary ready-mix

LAFARGE Readymix have launched a new range of self-placing concretes and screeds which, they say, could transform the way concrete is used in construction in the UK.

The company’s new Agilia (pronounced ‘a-jee-lee-a’) range currently comprises three main products: Agilia Screed C, a self-levelling, cement-based floor screed; Agilia Vertical, for smooth walls and columns; and Agilia Force, for difficult locations and complex formwork.

Lafarge Readymix national commercial manager Paul Tagg said: ‘Ready-mixed concrete is the cornerstone of virtually all major construction work. Agilia is specifically designed to enhance the performance of concrete in the construction process for everyone from architects to contractors.’

Agilia is the product of many years of development at the Lafarge Group research laboratories at Isle D’Abeau near Lyon, and further research and testing has been conducted by Lafarge Aggregates’ technical laboratory at Shawell in Leicestershire.

Lafarge Readymix technical manager Geoff Richardson commented: ‘We have invested a lot of time and resources in perfecting Agilia. Although it’s already available in France, the aggregates and cements available in the UK have slightly different properties, so we have worked hard to adapt the product accordingly.’

Lafarge Readymix say the benefits offered by Agilia products include:

  • self-placing and self-levelling characteristics; no need for vibration
  • perfect flatness and smooth finish (screed); no need for remedial work
  • strength, thickness and drying time similar to traditional concretes
  • screed suitable for all conditions; unaffected by wetting once installed
  • delivered and installed by conventional methods
  • quick, efficient installation; overall construction time can be reduced.
