Lafarge Harrycroft extension turned down

Rotherham Metropolitan Borough Council has turned down Lafarge Aggregates’ application to extend limestone extraction at its Harrycroft Quarry by a further 10years.

The current permission demands that extraction finish this year with the site having to be restored by 2016. The new 2006 application sought to extend extraction until 2018, with phased restoration also ending the same year, to access 3million tonnes of rock still in the ground.

However, the Council told MQR it was minded to reject the application. Operations started at the Worksop site in the early 1960s.
