Komatsu Europe reveal all-new WA475-10

Komatsu WA475-10 wheel loader

Next-generation loader with Komatsu Hydraulic Mechanical Transmission presented at bauma 2019

KOMATSU Europe used the recent bauma 2019 trade fair in Munich to present their prototype WA475-10 wheel loader.

Featuring the Komatsu Hydraulic Mechanical Transmission (KHMT), the next-generation, 24-tonne class wheel loader with its EU Stage V engine is built on the recognized benefits of its predecessor but is said to be up to 30% more fuel-efficient.

At low engine speeds, the Komatsu EU-Stage V-compliant engine puts out high power and delivers more engine torque and performance. The after-treatment system combines a Komatsu diesel particulate filter (KDPF) and selective catalytic reduction (SCR). The SCR system further reduces NOx emissions using AdBlue.

The engine’s advanced electronic control system manages the airflow rate and the fuel injection, combustion parameters and after-treatment functions, optimizing performance, reducing emissions and providing advanced diagnostic capabilities.

KOMTRAX telematics and the Komatsu CARE customer maintenance programme offer fleet management and support, helping to protect the machine against misuse and ensuring maximum efficiency and uptime.

The KHMT is innovative Komatsu technology that makes the WA475-10 wheel loader more powerful and more fuel-efficient. A variable speed control allows adjustment of the machine’s top speed, throughout the entire speed range, to the job-site’s requirements. The adjustable variable traction control effectively limits wheel spin in difficult ground conditions.

Power control on the new model includes a complete new innovation: hydraulic speed can be independently controlled directly from the accelerator pedal, making it easier for an operator to find the right balance between traction and lifting power.

The optimized Z-bar linkage system provides much more lift force and a higher tonnes-per-hour production rate, whilst fast lift speed and class-leading machine stability help to boost productivity, especially in narrow V-Shape loading applications. Furthermore, response time of the hydraulics and the dumping or lifting can be set to specific job-sites.

The new cab, which is more operator friendly and spacious, has an internal noise level of just 70dB(A), and with only four pillars, its all-around glass surface contributes to maximum visibility.

The lever console features a new command-control dial and is adjustable on a 5x axis to suit any operator. A slightly increased internal air pressure prevents dust and other particulates from entering the cab. For easy and safe access and egress, the WA475-10 is equipped with a rear-hinged door, angled steps and large handrails.

A 7in, full-colour, high-resolution monitor provides key machine metrics including KDPF status and data for AdBlue, e-levels and fuel consumption. Messages from the ECO Guidance system are displayed in real time during operations and on the exit screen when the ignition is turned off.

The ECO guidance menu allows the operator to check operation logs and fuel consumption. These records are useful to reduce overall fuel usage and can be saved and sorted by the operator.

The ‘Auto bucket-fill’ and other features help the operator to maintain productivity even during long shifts. Bucket capacity is from 4.2 to 4.9 cubic metres and rated payload capacity is 7,500kg.

A new air-suspension seat dampens vibrations to provide a more comfortable ride, whilst seat-mounted electronic pilot control levers, with the optional Komatsu Short-Lever-Steering System, help improve convenience and reduce operator fatigue.

Other features that help to reduce fuel consumption include the programmable Auto-Idle Shutdown system, which automatically switches off the engine when it is idle.

Cleaning and maintenance are also said to be easier than ever. The radiator has a wider fin spacing, whilst the cooling fan swings out and has a standard auto-reversing function.

An electric tiltable engine hood provides full access to the engine compartment, whilst side doors give quick and convenient access for daily checks and service. Full rear fenders are fitted as standard, and a gauge on the AdBlue fill cap minimizes overfilling.
