Keyway Group take UK’s first Hitachi ZW310-6

Hitachi ZW310-6 wheel loader

Company bolsters mobile plant fleet with new Stage IV-compliant Zaxis-6 wheel loader

KEYWAY Group have invested in their first Hitachi wheel loader, which is also the first model to be sold in the UK. The new ZW310-6 machine was supplied by Hitachi Construction Machinery (UK) Ltd (HCMUK) for use across Keyway’s busy recycling facilities in Durnford, Avonmouth and Gloucester.

The ZW310-6 has also helped construct a 15km long track for one of the biggest events in the UK’s off-road motorcycle racing calendar – the Weston Beach Race. The wheel loader was deployed on site to contribute to the movement of 200,000 tonnes of sand, which were used to build numerous 4m obstacles shaped by dozers and excavators.

The ZW-6 machine is fitted with a standard 4.3 cubic metre bucket and L5 tyres, which are suitable for quarrying and recycling. At Keyway’s recycling facilities, the wheel loader is used to transport material from a crusher, as well as for stockpiling and loading up to 100 trucks a day.

The company crushes, screens and turns demolition waste into different sized aggregates. In addition to recycling and the supply of aggregates, Keyway offer earthmoving, demolition, transport and waste removal services.

Last year, Keyway ordered a new large fleet of Hitachi products alongside the ZW310-6 wheel loader, including mini-, medium-, short-tail swing and medium excavators.

The family-run company’s founder, Eamonn F McGurk, is extremely happy with the first Hitachi wheel loader in his fleet: ‘The ZW310-6 is reliable and follows in the same pedigree as Hitachi Zaxis excavators,’ he said. ‘Operators have also been very impressed and it’s a vast improvement in terms of fuel economy and cycle times on the previous model supplied by another manufacturer.’

Mr McGurk added that the Hitachi brand is a perfect match for his company’s own philosophy. He continued: ‘The machines are high-quality products that are sustainable and built to last. Their productivity and reliability are unquestionable. And the environmental benefits resulting from the fuel economy of the Zaxis-5 and Zaxis-6 excavators are evident.’
