Liebherr A910 wheeled excavator

Plant-hire firm purchases UK’s first A910 compact wheeled excavator for motorway refurbishment contract

KELLY Plant Hire of Redditch have recently invested in their first Liebherr machine, an A910 compact wheeled excavator that was needed to meet the exacting demands of an M1 motorway refurbishment contract.

The first of its kind in the country, the 11.5-tonne A910 has a tail-end swing radius of only 1,600mm and is powered by a 75kW (102hp) diesel engine that complies with Stage IIIB exhaust emission limits without an installed diesel particulate filter.

The machine’s maintenance-free oxidating catalytic converter reduces emissions and, at the same time, cuts operating costs. Moreover, the compact design provides access to all regular servicing points from ground level, making daily checks easy and efficient.

Shaun Kelly, managing director of Kelly Plant Hire, said: ‘We chose the Liebherr machine based on a number of factors. We were impressed by the health and safety considerations, such as operator comfort, stability and engine emissions, but also the efficiency and cost-effectiveness of operations.

‘Working on site, the minimal tail-swing radius and the fast slewing speed combined with the Liebherr Likufix fast coupling for tools makes for a very versatile machine. The new machine is already at work on the M1 at Junction 29 and is proving itself against the other machines on site. In fact, we and our customer are so pleased with how the machine operates on site we have already ordered a second.’
