Horizon on a roll

Horizon Conveyor Equipment Ltd, the UK-based conveyor equipment manufacturer, have introduced a new range of aluminium rollers to complement their range of high-strength, low-weight plastic rollers.

The heavy-duty aluminium roller has been specially designed to combat the significant health and safety risks posed to site personnel when attempting to replace traditional, heavy steel trough and return rollers.

Horizon have constructed the roller using a robust yet lightweight aluminium tube which houses a steel shaft and sealed bearings. The bearing housings are manufactured from glass-reinforced nylon. A large stationary integral stone guard forms the outer primary labyrinth seal, which prevents any spillage building up between the roller and the frame, which can jam the roller. The greased inner-cupped lip seal, together with a sealed bearing, keeps out smaller contaminants.

According to Alan Bowler, the managing director of Horizon Conveyor Equipment, the new aluminium rollers retain the essential durability of their steel counterparts but boast the weight advantages, noise reduction and energy saving features that have made plastic rollers popular.

He said: ‘Our aluminium roller has all the weight and handling advantages of our HDPE plastic rollers but with the added advantage of extra strength especially for long return rollers. This is absolutely critical for operators who face real health and safety issues when attempting to replace failed steel rollers.’

He added: ‘Quite simply, the new aluminium rollers offer high strength at a reduced weight and at a reasonable cost.’
