Hitachi mid-range Zaxis-3 line-up expands

HITACHI Construction Machinery have announced the addition of the Zaxis 210-3 to their new line-up of mid-range excavators. This latest model joins the Zaxis 280-3, launched at Intermat in April, and the Zaxis 250-3 and Zaxis 350-3, which were introduced at the beginning of the year.

According to Hitachi, these latest Zaxis-3 excavators are already making a significant impact in key European markets, thanks to their technologically advanced performance, enhanced comfort and safety, and reduced running costs.

Hitachi have equipped the new machines with powerful, yet economical Isuzu engines. These comply with the new European Stage III A emission regulations by further combusting exhaust gases to reduce particulate output and levels of nitrogen oxide.

The combination of the four-valve OHC engines and the new HIOS III hydraulic system has boosted productivity levels on the new Zaxis range by 10–17%. Their new ‘E’ mode can also help to reduce fuel consumption compared to the previous models’ ‘P’ mode.

In addition, innovative hydraulics allow greater control over the simultaneous operation of the arm and boom. The revised recirculation system also increases operating speed by as much as 15%, while the hydraulic boosting system has increased the arm roll-in speed by up to 20%. Swing torque and traction forces have also been increased by 10–13% and 11–18% respectively.

Great emphasis has been placed on operator comfort and safety. The Zaxis-3 cab has 2.5 times more impact resistance than the previous Zaxis range, with noise and vibrations kept to a minimum due to silicone oil-filled elastic cab mounts. The spacious, climatically controlled and pressurized dust-free cab features a fully adjustable heated seat and offers excellent all-round visibility thanks to an enlarged window surface. The new machines are also equipped with a pin-code operated theft-deterrent device and a rear view camera as standard.

Routine maintenance has been simplified on the new machines. All major inspection points, such as the filters and radiator, are accessible from ground level, while the oil cooler, radiator and intercooler are situated in parallel, and the air-conditioning condenser can be opened to allow for easy cleaning. Oil and filter change intervals have been extended considerably; hydraulic oil, for example, can be used for up to 5,000h.

An onboard satellite system on the Zaxis-3 excavators monitors engine condition, technical faults and machine location, allowing dealers to communicate with their customers on a regular basis. Customers do not have to subscribe to this service, as Hitachi cover all the costs.
