Hewden invest in new SMC lighting towers

Plant hire specialist takes delivery of 100 new SMC TL-90 units from Morris Site Machinery

HEWDEN have strengthened their plant hire fleet with the delivery of 100 new SMC TL-90 lighting towers from Morris Site Machinery. The fuel-efficient, super-silent lighting towers have been provided in a special partnership deal with Morris to upgrade and replace the existing fleet, allowing Hewden to offer customers greater choice and flexibility.

Commenting on the latest investment, Hewden’s chief executive, Adrian Murphy, said: ‘We know the quality and reliability of equipment from Morris Site Machinery. The SMC TL-90 lighting towers offer even greater fuel efficiency and further carbon savings than the previous model. The latest range of towers is an important addition to our fleet as we look to reinvest in the business, giving customers the very latest and most innovative products and choice.

‘The Hewden vision is to create a unique, innovative and safe customer experience, so we want to partner with suppliers who offer us the right products to help us remain competitive and stay one step ahead. We know fuel efficiency and safety are two of the key priorities for our customers, and our fleet is able to offer a product solution that is both effective and efficient.’

The SMC TL-90 diesel-driven mobile lighting tower features automatic mast descent and alarm activation as standard. A host of transportation features is also provided, including a strengthened lifting eye, rear fork pockets for easy loading, and strap-down points so loads can be secured at ground level.

The hydraulically operated mast can be fully extended to 9m in height in 12s, with four 1,000W metal halide lamps fitted to super high-output reflectors for high-intensity directional light. The tower provides up to 85h of operation.

Phil Winnington, managing director of Morris Site Machinery, said: ‘Our SMC TL-90 lighting towers are designed and manufactured in the UK and enjoy an excellent reputation in the marketplace. Hewden have clearly demonstrated their faith in them and we have strengthened our partnership with one of the strongest rental brands on the market.

‘We are delighted Hewden have retained and enhanced their relationship with our brand by further investment and upgrading of their fleet in this way. Taking 100 TL-90 lighting towers is a significant endorsement.’
