HDL seal improves lubricant retention

SKF’s CR HDL seal has been designed to provide improved sealing for large bearings in applications where it is critical to retain bearing lubricants and exclude contaminants. The HDL seal also compensates for roll deflection, shaft misalignment and run-out.

The seal consists of a rubber lip, an outer carbon steel case, an inner filler ring, a stainless steel outer finger and an inner garter spring. The combination of a stainless steel finger and garter spring in the seal prevents external forces changing the lip film thickness. As a result, the seal doesn’t weaken with wear.

The inner filler ring increases structural rigidity and, unlike previous models, the main rubber lip is bonded to the metal case, providing complete security against internal bypass leakage. Available in shaft sizes from 200mm to 1,400mm, the seal has a maximum permissible misalignment of 2.5mm.

The main rubber lip is made from Longlife fluoroelastomer rubber but can also be supplied in standard nitrile rubber and Duratemp compound for extended heat and abrasive wear resistance. An optional dust-lip element is also available for even higher contaminant exclusion.
