Company secures new contracts with several Tier 1 contractors on nuclear power station project

HANSON UK have extended their involvement with EDF Energy’s Hinkley Point C project, securing a roads construction contract for the Kier Bam Joint Venture through their contracting division.

The contract includes supplying 40,000 tonnes of cement-bound granular material (CBGM) and 100,000 tonnes of asphalt over the next two years. The materials will be used to build access roads on site.

Hanson Contracting have also secured contracts with Laing O’Rourke, to support new accommodation campuses that are being built to house up to 1,500 construction workers.

In addition, the company is supplying the temporary access roads for the Kier Bam JV and other packages for the Bylor JV of Bouygues Travaux Publics and Laing O’Rourke, which is responsible for the construction of the reactor buildings at the site.

Stewart Cameron, Hanson’s Hinkley Point C project lead, said: ‘We are delighted to have extended our involvement with this high-profile project to construct the first in a new generation of nuclear power stations in the UK.

‘We are supplying a number of the Tier 1 contractors with products from two of our cement plants, four quarries, three asphalt plants, a marine dredger and a Regen ground granulated blast-furnace slag site.

‘Our commitment to quality, customer service and ‘right first time, every time’ is crucial to meeting the exacting safety standards of this large and complex contract,’ he added.
