Hanson concrete companies merged

HANSON have strengthened their presence in the concrete products sector by merging their UK blocks, pipes and precast operations into a new division - Hanson Concrete Products.

With 26 manufacturing sites and a turnover in excess of £80 million a year, the new division is already the UK's largest producer of aggregate concrete blocks and concrete drainage products and has plans to become a market leader in the precast sector.

Managing director Will Spurr said: 'Our aim is to develop the combined business through bolt-on acquisitions. The concrete products market remains highly fragmented and we are determined to make our presence felt.'

Hanson Concrete Products, which has its administrative headquarters at Sutton Courtenay in Oxfordshire, has been formed by bringing together Hanson Pipes, Hanson Concbloc, FC Precast, Albion Concrete and Belfast-based Seagoe Concrete.

Three new directors have been appointed to lead the new business: Trevor Poole, former general manager of Hanson Bath & Portland Stone, has been appointed operations director; Mike O'Shea, ex-operations director with Hanson Pipes, has been named as technical services director; and Glyn Woolley has moved from Hanson Aggregates, where he was divisional trading manager, to spearhead the new division's acquisitions drive as commercial director.
