Green honour for Lafarge Readymix

Company receives International Green Hero status in recognition of Extensia flooring concrete

LAFARGE Readymix have received an International Green Hero wall-shield for their environmental innovation and efforts to extend eco-friendly practice. The honour, from eco-champions The Green Organisation, comes on top of Lafarge’s earlier Green Apple award.

Readymix’s success in the awards comes in recognition of the company’s Extensia flooring concrete – a more environmentally friendly, low-shrink product which can help reduce the CO2 emissions of construction by 20%, compared with conventional concrete.

Jeremy Greenwood (left of photo), managing director of Lafarge Readymix, was presented with the wall-shield by Trevor Bayliss OBE – famed for inventing the wind-up radio.

Mr Greenwood said: ‘This is a true honour. Being recognized by The Green Organisation for one award is fantastic but to receive Green Hero status is outstanding and just goes to show that all the hard work of our employees has paid off.

‘Innovation has always been at the heart of Lafarge’s philosophy and we also take our responsibility to reduce our impact on the environment extremely seriously. Creating products such as Extensia is one way in which we can help fulfil both those commitments.’

Lafarge and Extensia will also be featured in The Green Book, the world’s only work of reference on environmental best practice. It will be distributed globally with the intention of inspiring future ecologically sound innovation.

The Green Organisation’s national organizer, Roger Wolens, commented: ‘To show continued interest in environmental issues during the current financial climate shows great foresight, and Lafarge Readymix deserve the recognition of being Green Apple Award winners.

‘To then go further and become International Green Heroes is an even bolder statement of environmental intent. Organizations that help others to help the environment are demonstrating a serious commitment to the world around them. They invest in a better future for us all and deserve to be recognized for their efforts.’
