Greater Versatility from Atlas Copco

Atlas Copco XAS 188-14 compressor

Atlas Copco expand Versatility range of mobile compressors with four new Stage V models

ATLAS Copco has extended their Versatility range of mobile compressors with the launch of the XAS 188-10 PACE, XAS 188-14 PACE, XAS 288-10 PACE, and XAS 238-14 PACE. Offering operators optimal fuel efficiency and increased productivity, all four new models are Stage V compliant and built for use in harsh environments, such as quarries, mines and construction and demolition sites, thanks to Atlas Copco’s HardHat canopy.

‘The term ‘versatility’ is defined as the ability to adapt or be adapted to many different functions or activities, which is summed up impeccably by the compressors in our Versatility range,’ commented Rodolfo Reimberg, vice-president of marketing for Atlas Copco’s Portable Air division.

‘Thanks to our PACE technology, operators can easily change their compressor’s pressure and flow to suit the needs of their job. Customers will only need one compressor for multiple applications.’

Atlas Copco’s innovative PACE (pressure adjustment through cognitive electronics) system is said to offers the widest operating pressure range within a single compressor, allowing multiple pressure and flow combinations.

PACE extends the operating spectrum for a single compressor from 5 bar up to 14 bar. This increased versatility boosts the utilization rate of the compressor, providing extra productivity as it gives more flow when operators lower the pressure.

The PACE system resides within Atlas Copco’s Xc2003 controller, which has an intuitive colour LCD screen user interface. Operators can easily change the pressure setting in increments of 0.1 bar in three easy steps.

The system keeps track of compressor utilization and prompts for planned service interventions, whilst the Xc2003 maintains the compressor’s environmental resilience with IP65-rated dust and water protection.

Moreover, all compressors in the Versatility range come with Atlas Copco’s patented HardHat polyethylene canopy for protection against the elements.

To help operators optimize fuel efficiency, the four new models all feature ECO-mode. This innovative technology from Atlas Copco helps reduce the cost associated with running compressors in idling mode during downtime.

Traditionally, while in idling mode, a compressor will switch to no-load mode: even though no air is required, the compressor is still running and consuming fuel. However, when ECO-mode is activated, the XAS 188 and XAS 288 compressors automatically switch from a no-load to unload mode, reducing fuel consumption by a further 50%.

Significantly, utilizing ECO-mode does not delay productivity. Once the work is ready to resume, the compressor is back up and running in seconds.

The Versatility range has been designed to work reliably in ambient temperatures ranging from –25°C to 45°C. Additionally, all the compressors in this range feature robust, 110% spillage-free frames to eliminate any risk of ground contamination.

Simplicity of service was also factored into the design of the range. Atlas Copco say each model is easy to access and requires an oil service just once every two years. And, thanks to the new patented oil separator vessel on the four new models in the Versatility range, the oil service takes just 30 minutes.
