Gold award for Back Lane Quarry

AGGREGATE Industries UK Ltd’s Back Lane Quarry near Carnforth in Lancashire has been awarded its first Gold Award for Environmental Excellence by the Quarry Products Association.

The award covers 10 categories ranging from employee awareness and training to air quality and noise disturbance. Environmental improvements made by the company at Back Lane include the introduction of a new water-management facility and a dust-suppression system.

"Presenting the award to Back Lane unit manager Mark Morfoot, chairman of Lancashire County Council, Councillor Dorothy Westell, said: ‘It’s always good to see at first hand examples of good environmental practice and it is vital that companies who lead the way get the recognition they deserve.’"

"Mr Morfoot replied: ‘I am very proud of the team effort here at Back Lane Quarry. We have all worked together and have surpassed, year on year, environmental targets that we have set ourselves.’"

"Back Lane has quarried Carboniferous limestone for over 50 years and Aggregate Industries have worked the site since 1997, extracting around 750,000 tonnes of stone a year."
