Gas pipeline project nears completion

"THE final stages of a major gas pipeline project that will see a big reduction in the number of fuel tankers driving through the Peak District National Park is currently nearing completion.

The project, which has been carried out by independent infrastructure consultants Lattice Energy Services (formerly BG Energy Services), involved building 9.3km of medium-pressure gas main to supply two sites in Derbyshire owned by Longcliffe Quarries. The connection into the Transco network was made at Wirksworth, near Matlock.

Lattice negotiated with Transco over financing the up-sizing of the gas main, with Transco agreeing to increase the capacity of the first 2.6km to cater for any other local companies wanting to take advantage of the opportunity to convert to gas.

As a result, Grangemill Quarry, near Wirksworth, has also asked Lattice Energy Services for a connection to the new main in order to use gas to fire four dryers."
