Fozmula unveil capacitance liquid level switches

The use of capacitance technology in the measurement of liquids is becoming increasingly popular. Recognizing this trend, Fozmula have introduced a new range of capacitive liquid level measurement switches, giving engineers and specifiers more options for detecting liquid levels.

The company’s S85 and S86 switches, which come with Delphi Packard style connectors, are designed primarily for the UK and US markets, while the S81 and S82 switches, fitted with DIN 72585 connectors, are suitable for use in the German and other European markets.

Fozmula’s S81 and S85 capacitive liquid level switches have been developed for use in radiators, coolant top-up reservoirs or other water-based applications. The S82 and S86 units are designed for use in oil applications, eg engine, hydraulic and compressor.

All the models are lightweight and more compact than previous versions, making them, say Fozmula, less prone to external physical damage and easier to install. The switches, for example, are unaffected by tanks that contain contaminating solids, such as rust particles, which often cause traditional swing arm senders or float switches to fail.

The company also says its new range of liquid level switches are robust and rugged enough to withstand high levels of vibration, water, dust and shock. All the switches are manufactured to meet sealing requirements of IP67 and to work in high pressures (5 bar), as well as low- and high-temperature (between –40°C and 130°C) environments. They have also been tested and comply with all the relevant vibration and EMC standards.

The units are universal and suit many different applications, thanks to over 30 selectable switching configurations and an integral factory programmable microprocessor. Other key features include an alarm activation delay (up to 20s) for when levels have not settled during system power-up, or for occasions when equipment is turned or moved causing liquid levels to disperse and become uneven.

When levels are detected to have dropped significantly low, the switch’s engine-management system can be programmed to activate ‘emergency shutdown’, warning users of the potentially expensive damage to the engines being inspected.

As well as launching the S81, S82, S85 and S86 liquid level switches, Fozmula have also introduced their T/LL140 ‘intelligent’ capacitance fuel-level measurement sensor.

The sensor has been designed to meet the demands for a more flexible and efficient method of measuring fuel levels in inaccessible operating environments, such as industrial machinery, generating sets, static fuel tanks, mobile lighting towers, and off-road and rough-terrain vehicles.

The T/LL140 has no moving parts, making it suitable for use in high-level vibration environments, fluid turbulence applications, or where there is a likelihood of contaminating solids, which frequently causes conventional swing arm and stem float sensors to fail.

One of the major features of the fuel-level measurement device is its sensor stem, which can be cut to any desired length by the user with no detrimental effects on performance. The T/LL140 can automatically self-recalibrate for different fluid types (oil, diesel, bio-diesel etc) and various tank shapes, including round, saddle-shaped and cylindrical.
