First L580 for Scotland

Ennstone Thistle Ltd have replaced a Liebherr L551 wheel loader with a new generation L580 hydrostatic wheel loader at their Craigenlow Quarry in Aberdeenshire.

"The Craigenlow Quarry operation extracts granite for use in road building, coated stone, ready-mixed concrete, coastal protection schemes etc. The company’s new L580, the first in Scotland, is used entirely for rehandling pro-cessed stone from the mobile primary crusher to a stockpile from where it is taken by conveyor to the secondary crushing and screening plants. The wheel loader is currently handling around 2,500 tonnes/day on a 12h shift."

"Ennstone Thistle’s L580 has an operating weight of 24.7 tonnes and is powered by a Liebherr water-cooled and turbocharged six-cylinder diesel engine which develops 195kW at 2,000 rev/min. The machine is fitted with 26.5 x 25 Michelin X mine D2 tyres and is equipped with 3,050mm lift arms. The 3,000mm wide 5m3 bucket has a spill board and is fitted with hard-wearing teeth."

Ennstone Thistle report that they are pleased with their new acquisition and say it is proving to be a ‘very useful tool’.
