Extractive Industry Geology 2018 conference
This year’s EIG conference takes place from 12–15 September at Durham University
THE Extractive Industry Geology (EIG) conference is one of the longest-running and keenly anticipated events in the UK minerals calendar. Organized by a passionate volunteer band of professionals representing all aspects of the industry, this is one conference that anyone connected to UK minerals should not miss.
The EIG Conference is the principal event for sharing knowledge, scientific research and good practice in the field of applied geology within the UK minerals industry. This event is for geo-professionals associated with the extraction of industrial rocks and minerals, including those involved in geology, hydrogeology, geotechnical engineering, restoration and after-use, reserves and resources, and quarry design and planning.
The 2018 conference includes two days of presentations on Thursday and Friday 13–14 September at Durham University. The 2018 keynote Ansel Dunham lecture, ‘A question of balance’, is being presented by Alan Thompson, a well-known minerals industry consultant, who will explore the balance between mineral extraction against environmental and landscape protection.
The conference is preceded and followed by field excursions to local and regional extractive industry sites on Wednesday 12 September and Saturday 15 September.
