European Conference on Mineral Planning

"THE third European Conference on Mineral Planning (ECMP ‘02) is to be held from 8–10 October 2002 at the Seidenweberhaus Congress Centre in Krefeld, Germany. Organized by the Geological Survey of Northrhine Westphalia, with support from the European Commission, the theme of the conference will be ‘Raw materials planning in Europe — Change of conditions – New perspectives?’."

"The conference will discuss all elements of mineral planning policy and practice in Europe, including ecological and economic-technical aspects, as well as legal regulation and the differing conditions under which raw materials are extracted. All proceedings will be conducted in English and German, and the programme will also include a trade exhibition and excursions to nearby extraction sites and interesting examples of site restoration and after use."

"So far, two successful ECMP meetings have been held, the first in 1997 in Zwolle, the Netherlands, and the second in 1999 in Harrogate, England. Like ECMP ‘02, these were held under the guidance of an international organizing committee comprising delegates from Belgium, Denmark, Germany, Great Britain, the Netherlands, Norway and Sweden."

"The third conference in 2002 is once again seeking participation from speakers, exhibitors and delegates from: the mineral extraction industries; land-use planners; researchers in raw materials; environmental regulation authorities; public administrators; consulting firms in mining, environmental management, land-use planning and environmental law; and non-governmental organizations interested in sustainable development and environmental protection."
