Epiroc to expand drill rig production facility

Company expanding one of its main production sites in Sweden to boost productivity and long-term efficiency

EPIROC are to expand one of their main production facilities, in Örebro, Sweden, to boost productivity and ensure long-term efficiency.

The company will expand and consolidate production capacity utilized by the Surface and Exploration Drilling division, including the construction of a major new building hosting assembly lines and offices. In total, it will involve a facility expansion of about 10,000 square meters. Construction will begin this year and the facility will be inaugurated in 2021.

‘With this investment, we are ensuring that this strategic production site will be as productive and efficient as possible for the long term,’ said Helena Hedblom, Epiroc’s senior executive vice-president of mining and infrastructure. ‘It will allow us to serve our customers even faster and better.’

Equipment currently made at the facility, which employs almost 400 people, includes surface drill rigs for quarrying, mining and construction, such as the SmartROC and FlexiROC models. In the future the facility will also manufacture exploration and geotechnical drilling equipment.

The latest investment follows other recent investments by Epiroc in Örebro. In May this year the company broke ground on a new heat-treatment line for rock drills, and in 2018 Epiroc inaugurated their Control Tower – a high-tech collaboration arena for customers and partners, where they, together with Epiroc, can develop solutions to make mining and construction operations more productive, efficient and safe.
