Environmental accreditation for Devon quarrying business

GLENDINNING, the largest family owned quarrying, concrete products and road contracting business in the Devon region, have been accredited with the ISO 14001 Environmental Management System standard.

ISO14001 confirms that the business has effectively introduced an environmental management system and supporting audit programme that focuses on planned and controlled consumption reduction, including recycling and waste reduction.

Glendinning managing director Barry Wilson said: ‘As a quarrying business, we are very aware of our environmental and community responsibilities. We have made a huge effort over the last two years across all departments to design auditable systems that record, measure, trace, treat, recycle and reuse the products that we generate.

‘We are delighted with this accreditation, which not only confirms the company’s environmental commitment but also demonstrates how the desire to reduce waste, control pollution and maximize the recycling of waste products has been embraced by our staff at all levels.

‘This is a very positive step in the development of Glendinning. In recognizing the environmental impact of our trading activities and introducing measures to satisfy ISO 14001 criteria, we have developed commercial opportunities that will have a positive impact on our business and on those with whom we trade.’

ISO 14001 accreditation follows last year’s award to Glendinning of a Certificate of Compliance by the British Aggregates Association under its ‘Scheme for Assessing Operating Standards and Demonstrating Competence at Quarry Sites’.

This independently assessed award certifies that the management of the quarry are aware of their legal responsibilities and are operating their site in a safe and competent manner.
