DX300LC-5 scoops Lowest Cost of Ownership Award

Doosan DX300LC-5 excavator

Doosan’s latest 30-tonne crawler excavator wins new annual award organized by EquipmentWatch

DOOSAN’s 30-tonne DX300LC-5 crawler excavator has won the Lowest Cost of Ownership Award in the Excavators Crawler Medium category in a new annual series of awards organized by EquipmentWatch, a world leader in data, software and insights for the heavy equipment industry.

The Lowest Cost of Ownership Awards are the only accolade of their kind in the industry, and are based on empirical data regarding the long-term cost of heavy and compact equipment. Nominees were recognized within 15 different categories of machine that exhibit the lowest cost of ownership over a five-year span.

Many of the reasons behind the DX300LC-5 winning the Excavators Crawler Medium Award are evident in the improved performance it is said to offer compared with the previous LC-3 Stage IIIB model.

The DX300LC-5 is powered by the Doosan DL08 six-cylinder diesel engine, with an output of 202kW at 1,800 rev/min, providing a 27% increase in engine power and a 30% boost in torque over the LC-3 model. The engine meets Stage IV emission regulations without the need for a diesel particulate filter (DPF), through the use of cooled exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) and selective catalyst reduction (SCR) after-treatment technologies.

As well as the Doosan engine, new innovative and exclusive features have been introduced in the DX300LC-5, leading to a 10% reduction in fuel consumption, on average, compared with the Stage IIIB machine.

Among these features are the new ‘Trip Meter Setting’ screen, which allows operators to check fuel consumption daily (or over a desired period) directly from the control panel, and the new Auto Shut-Off, which automatically shuts down the engine when the machine has been idling for a specified time (3 to 60 minutes – configurable by the operator). To save even more fuel, there is a special Doosan-developed SPC (Smart Power Control) system to optimize the balance between the pumps’ output and the diesel engine.

To further maximize durability and reduce noise, the DX300LC-5, as with all other Doosan LC-5 models, is equipped with EM (Enhanced Macro-surface) bushings. In addition, air pre-cleaners are fitted as standard to ensure cleaner air is sent to the engine air filter, thereby extending air cleaner servicing intervals and enhancing uptime and productivity.

Doosan have also added protection to the inner cab air filter and redesigned the cab air-conditioning filters for easier replacement. Recommended for dusty environments such as quarries, an oil-bath pre-cleaner is available as an option to remove dust from the air intake, extending air cleaner servicing intervals significantly.

To avoid permanent engine damage, an acoustic alarm has been added to call the operator’s attention to ‘water in fuel’. If the operator ignores the signal after several alerts, the engine and pump are automatically derated. In addition, to make it easier for operators to understand the importance of warnings and to communicate the proper warning codes, pop-up menus appear with detailed information.

The DX300LC-5 is factory installed with the DoosanConnect state-of-the-art, wireless fleet-monitoring system. This offers a web-based fleet-management solution that is useful for monitoring the performance and security of machines, and promoting preventative maintenance.

The new service allows owners and dealers to remotely monitor and communicate with Doosan machines via the DoosanConnect telematics website. Also available for retro-fitting in kit form, the DoosanConnect system is supplied with a free three-year subscription and customers are provided with their own account so they can manage machines in their fleet using the system.
