DTH Plant Hire first to take new Volvo EC200Es

Volvo EC200E excavator

Leicester-based plant hire firm first in GB to take delivery of Volvo’s new 20-tonne excavator offering

DTH Plant Hire Ltd of Thurcaston, near Leicester, are the first in Great Britain to take delivery of Volvo Construction Equipment’s latest offering in the 20-tonne excavator class with the purchase of two new Volvo EC200Es.

Having made its global debut at the Bauma show in Munich in April, the EC200E is positioned between Volvo CE’s existing EC220E and EC180E models and is aimed at one of the most competitive segments of the excavator market.

Commenting on his recent purchase, managing director Dave Green said: ‘We prefer to align ourselves with premium brands for our plant fleet and were keen to be the first to take delivery of Volvo’s latest offering in the 20-tonne excavator class.

‘We are confident the new EC200E will be a popular machine for the majority of our clients. Furthermore, since we already run a range of Volvo excavators and have been satisfied with their reliability, choosing the new 20-tonne machines for our mixed fleet of equipment made total sense.’

Powered by a four-cylinder Stage V compliant Volvo engine that develops 156hp, the EC200E is said to offer the latest in engine technology and operating sophistication. For example, pump flow is controlled for combined digging and swinging operations to reduce the flow loss through the overload relief valves, whilst maintaining digging power and maximum swing torque.

Moreover, when Eco mode is selected, the machine provides better fuel efficiency without loss of performance in most operating conditions.

The Volvo Care Cab offers a large roomy interior with plenty of leg room and foot space, whilst excellent all-round visibility is enhanced by pressurized and filtered cab air supplied by a 14-vent climate-control system, and an adjustable, easy-to-read LCD colour monitor provides real-time information of the machine functions.

The new EC200Es have been supplied to DTH Plant Hire in standard specification, which includes hose-rupture valves to both boom and dipper cylinders, quick-fit hydraulics and hammer/shear hydraulic lines.

The combination of the 5.7m boom and 2.9m dipper arm affords the machine a maximum digging reach and depth of 9.93m and 6.73m respectively. The dumping height is 6.55m and the machine’s maximum lifting capacity across carriage at full reach is 2.8 tonnes.

Established in 2016, DTH Plant Hire specialize in operated and self-drive plant and have enjoyed strong and rapid growth by offering a range of excavators up to 35 tonnes operating weight, as well as site dumpers, rollers and telehandlers, across the UK.
