CPA appoints new chief executive

Kevin Minton

Kevin Minton promoted to position of chief executive of the Construction Plant-hire Association

KEVIN Minton has been promoted to the position of chief executive of the Construction Plant-hire Association (CPA), replacing Colin Wood who decided to step down from the position at the end of the first quarter of 2018.

Mr Minton has worked for the CPA since 2007 and was initially senior manager before being promoted to CPA director in 2013. In his new role as chief executive, he will report to the CPA’s governing council and work alongside the president and the chairman to shape and ensure the continuing success of the Association.

During his time with the CPA, Mr Minton has been instrumental in working with members and other organizations to promote and develop safe and healthy use of construction plant. He has recently driven forward a major research project in conjunction with CITB to examine the supply and demand of plant operatives across the construction industry, which indicated that plant operation as an occupation is one of the top five in construction.

Mr Minton has also represented the Association on CONIAC, the HSE’s leading policy committee for the construction sector, and led the establishment of the Strategic Forum Plant Safety Group. He also instigated the CPA’s apprentice awards presentation event, Stars of the Future, and the CPA Plant Conference. His new role as chief executive will see him taking on an even bigger role within the organization and reinforcing his liaison work with government bodies and industry associations.

Mr Minton said: ‘I am honoured that CPA Council has chosen me to lead the Association in the next phase of its growth, and I thank them for their support. The members, Council, special interest groups and staff have all shown an enthusiasm and willingness to further develop the CPA. I intend to build on the excellent work that has been done by Colin Wood, and to continue to support members and the plant hire sector to face the challenges that lie ahead.’

CPA president Brian Jones said: ‘My first task as president was to help prepare the Association for the future, and so I am pleased that CPA Council has chosen Kevin Minton to take on the role of chief executive. Kevin has already taken the lead on many projects that have moved the CPA forward. On behalf of the CPA Council, I congratulate Kevin on his appointment, and I wish him every success in his new role.’
