Country Representative status for Lafarge Readymix

Lafarge Readymix in the running to be named as a European Business of the Year

LAFARGE Readymix are in the running to be named as a European Businesses of the Year. The division, part of Lafarge Aggregates & Concrete UK, has been chosen as a UK representative in the Innovation category of the awards, thanks to its low-shrink concrete flooring technology, Extensia.

Developed following years of research and customer demands for more sustainable materials, Extensia needs no steel mesh or steel fibres and offers construction projects potential carbon emission savings of around 20% compared with conventional concrete. It is also 100% recyclable.

Jeremy Greenwood, managing director Lafarge Readymix, picked up a certificate in recognition of Readymix’s Country Representative status at a special ceremony in London.

He said: ‘We were absolutely thrilled to be chosen as a UK representative and exceptionally proud the judges thought our product worthy of a place in the Innovation category. It was an honour to be benchmarked against outstanding leaders in other industries, such as Harrods, HSBC and Virgin Trains, who were all represented.

‘Now we must hope the judges are so impressed with Extensia that we are chosen to go forward to the final stage in Barcelona where the overall European winners will be crowned.’

The European Business Awards recognize excellence, best practice and innovation in commercial enterprise across 28 countries. Lafarge Readymix are one of 25 UK Country Representatives to go through to a further judging stage where the top 100 from across all countries will be selected to become Ruban d’Honneur recipients. From these, overall winners will be chosen in 10 categories.
