Construction firm reaches major recycling landmark

Sheehan Group celebrate diverting 500,000 tonnes of waste material from UK landfill sites

OXFORDSHIRE-based Sheehan Group have recently achieved a significant recycling landmark by saving 500,000 tonnes of construction and demolition (C&D) waste from going to UK landfill sites. The major milestone comes thanks to the company’s multi-million-pound investment in an advanced recycling plant in 2012.

Located at Stanton Harcourt, near Oxford, the water-treatment facility is being used to wash C&D waste (destined for landfill) by turning it into reusable aggregates.

Chris Sheehan, managing director of the business, said: ‘The introduction of the waste-recycling plant was a significant investment forming part of our sustainability strategy and we’re delighted to have reached such a milestone.

‘Sustainability and ethically sound operations are crucial in the construction industry and we are committed to leading the field by producing recycled materials. We have found more and more local firms are coming to us as part of the 'Considerate Constructors Scheme' to purchase recycled aggregates.’

Founded more than 40 years ago, Sheehan Group have grown into a multi-million-pound business with a 70-strong workforce. The family-run firm specializes in construction and civil engineering services, having worked on projects at locations across Oxfordshire including: Tusmore House; Queens College; and Said Business School.

Tara Sheehan, director of Sheehan Group, said: ‘We place a great emphasis on sustainability, client service and expertise. We always strive to be at the forefront of advancements that enable us to be as efficient and sustainable as possible.’
