CEMEX UK win 13 major health and safety awards

RoSPA scheme recognizes significant safety achievements in all areas of the business

CEMEX UK picked up no less than 13 awards at this year’s Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA) Occupational Health and Safety Awards. The awards recognized significant safety achievements within all areas of the company’s business, from concrete, cement, aggregates and asphalt to building products, rail, logistics, marine and ash.

‘It is an outstanding achievement to win so many health and safety awards and to be recognized for our work in this area, especially when you consider the challenging environment of our industry. Each business area presents its own health and safety risks and challenges which must be addressed,’ said CEMEX UK’s health and safety director, Andy Taylor.

He continued: ‘2013 was a significant year when we reduced our employee lost-time injuries to one. But, as we all know, safety has no memory; we must continue to look after ourselves and look after each other, protecting our employees, contractors and the communities in which we operate. Our number one priority is zero injuries.’

The 13 RoSPA awards won by CEMEX UK comprise two sector award winners and two sector commendations, three President’s Awards (for 10–14 consecutive Gold awards), four Gold Medals (for 5–9 consecutive Gold awards) and two Gold awards.
