CEMEX UK upgrade Cambusmore plant

£1.5 million refit improves safety, minimizes waste and reduces energy and maintenance costs

CEMEX UK say they have almost completed a £1.5 million upgrade of their 30-year-old Cambusmore aggregates plant in Callandar, Perthshire, Scotland, increasing its capacity by 15%, while minimizing waste and reducing energy consumption and maintenance costs by 10% and 20% respectively.

More importantly, the new plant will improve the safety of workers at the site as potential structural problems, poor access and several working at height issues have been replaced by a new, modern, easy-to-access production plant consisting of a Don Valley Engineering primary screen and associated conveyors, a Metso cone crusher and secondary screen, and a CDE sand plant.

In order to make best use of existing assets and minimize costs, the project involved the utilization of redundant plant from Hereford.

‘There are two major advantages to this new plant; it will help ensure the safety of our colleagues and contractors at the site; and for customers, the aggregates produced will be of better quality with regard to grading, moisture content and cleanliness,’ commented CEMEX UK operations director Rob Doody.

He added: ‘Cambusmore has been producing aggregate since 1965 and is now ready to continue providing the local community with the construction materials it needs.’
