CEMEX invest in new Blackburn ready-mix plant

Old facility at Stanley Street replaced with more modern, sustainable and flexible plant

CEMEX UK have invested in a replacement ready-mixed concrete plant at their existing Stanley Street site in Blackburn, Lancashire.

Replacing the old plant, which was constructed 42 years ago, the new facility incorporates a more sustainable operation and offers more choice in the type and quantity of products to meet the increasing demand for flexibility and quality from customers.

The plant is equipped with a mixer which allows local customers and builders to collect their own concrete, as well as having it delivered – a new facility which CEMEX were unable to offer with the old plant.

The Imer plant is capable of producing up to 60 cubic metres of ready-mixed concrete per hour through the CEMEX Ginco automatic batching system. It incorporates a new hopper design and a wider feed conveyor to the mixer to maximize speed of production and reduce energy consumption.

Key elements of its sustainable production credentials include a concrete recycling system and 100% water recycling. Rainwater and waste water are harvested via a 30,000-litre tank and recycled and reused in the production of the concrete.
