Company says additional facility will complement its existing supply base and reduce lead times

CDE Group, the Cookstown-headquartered suppliers of equipment for the global mining and quarrying industries, have purchased Caterpillar Northern Ireland’s manufacturing facility in Monkstown for an undisclosed sum.

The move comes as Caterpillar NI continue to relocate operations from Monkstown to their facility in Larne.

By the end of September this year, CDE will take possession of the building and add the latest fabrication and painting equipment. The plant covers more than 300,000 square feet and is said to be well suited to the fabrication of complex equipment.

With demand for CDE equipment expected to double by the end of 2020, the company says this additional facility will complement its existing Northern Ireland supply base and enhance employment in the Monkstown area.

Commenting on the purchase, CDE’s director of operations, Stephen McCullough, said: ‘Over the next 12 months the plant will be operational and will result in reduced lead times for projects, which is a key driver for CDE sales.’

CDE’s finance director, Colin Trainor, added: ‘The efficiencies generated will strengthen the CDE organization as well as underpin the prospect for employment in the wider area. With our new headquarters also completing in the fourth quarter, this is going to be an exciting time for the company and will produce high-quality job opportunities.’

Expressing their gratitude to the Caterpillar NI team for their professionalism and co-operation during the sale process, CDE chairman Tony Convery (pictured) and managing director Brendan McGurgan provided assurance that they will continue the world-class manufacturing excellence and attitude to health and safety that Caterpillar developed over their many years in Monkstown.
