Cat tyres eliminate flats

Caterpillar’s Flexport extreme-duty solid tyres for skid-steer loaders are designed with elliptically shaped holes moulded through the outer ring of the tyre’s sidewalls. The shape of the holes reduces the cracking and chunking that occurs on conventional solid tyres with a round-hole design.

The increased tyre flexibility is said to allow the tyres to handle all surfaces with a greatly improved ride over that of other solid tyres. Compared to pneumatic tyres, the design eliminates flats while providing better stability and reduced bounce.

Compared to a standard solid tyre, the Flexport is 3in wider to allow for greater floatation. The tread depth is 58% deeper and the tread pattern is designed to allow the transition from smooth to rough surfaces. Due to its extra width, the new tyre has a 28% greater load capacity than the standard solid tyre.

A non-marking option is also available, which can be used on concrete, stone, indoor floor material, driveways and walkways.
