Case CX90D excavator

Cheshire-based firm takes delivery of first EU Stage V-compliant Case excavator in Europe

DENNIS Barnfield, the longest-serving Case Construction Equipment dealers in the UK, have sold the first EU Stage V-certified Case excavator in Europe, a CX90D MSR, to Civils & Construction Solutions in Cheshire.

The machine, which replaces the CX85C in the Case line-up, is powered by a Yanmar T5 diesel engine, in place of the Isuzu motor of the previous-generation excavator.

The Yanmar engine meets Stage V without selective catalytic reduction (SCR), relying instead on an auto-cleaning diesel particulate filter (DPF) that requires no operator intervention. The system is self-cleaning and auto-regenerating through oxidation, increasing post combustion, requiring no additional service work.

Despite being cleaner, the new engine delivers 20% more power, at 68hp (50.7kW), along with 56% more torque, now 283Nm. However, its larger capacity and higher torque are a better fit for the machine’s hydraulic system, resulting in less load on the engine and a 4.5% reduction in fuel use in SP mode (3.2% down in H mode).

Case have also replaced the CX75C with the CX85D SR. Both new machines benefit from a short radius upper structure, with the new engine positioned across the rear of the upper frame.

The CX85D is available with a choice of offset boom or monoboom, with a fixed kingpost, while the CX90D offers a swing boom for increased productivity. The CX85D has a lift capacity of 1,700kg, while the CX90D can handle up to 1,800kg at a 4m reach.

The midi-excavators feature the same intelligent hydraulic system as larger Case models, with an Auto mode for grading, lifting and precision work, a Heavy mode for the best balance between productivity and fuel economy, and a Speed Priority mode, that delivers extra speed and power for maximum digging performance.
