Carter Jonas minerals and waste-management team

David Sandbrook, Huw Richards, Michael Hayes and Alexa Phelps join Carter Jonas from SLR Consulting

CARTER Jonas, the national property consultancy, have enhanced their capabilities in minerals and waste management with the appointment of a new team from environmental and advisory solutions company SLR Consulting. David Sandbrook and Huw Richards both join as partner with Michael Hayes and Alexa Phelps as associate partner and surveyor respectively.

The four join the firm’s Birmingham office and a newly established satellite office in Cardiff. They will bring new expertise to Carter Jonas’ established minerals and waste-management team, widening the scope of services and its geographical reach to provide professional advice to land and mineral owners, financial institutions, infrastructure clients and businesses across the country.

Mark Hall-Digweed, head of infrastructure at Carter Jonas, said: ‘It has been a long-term priority to expand our capabilities in minerals and waste management as it is a point of differentiation for Carter Jonas and we are overwhelmed with demand.

‘Extracting minerals and managing waste requires a sensitive and comprehensive approach, and increasingly our clients, as well as colleagues from across our business, need advice from specialists in the field.

‘David, Huw, Michael and Alexa bring more than 70 years of experience to the team. Their knowledge and variety of skills enhances that of our growing infrastructure team and enables us to provide a unique, full-service offer.’

Each of the team has extensive experience in estate management, valuation and planning in respect of mineral, waste, renewable energy and ancillary properties and business.

David Sandbrook is a Chartered Surveyor and Chartered Planner who was previously a partner at GVA and a director at SLR Consulting in the UK. He is recognized as a leading practitioner in his field and regularly acts as an expert witness in mineral and waste valuation and development cases. He is currently an elected Member of RICS Governing Council, holding the Land Strategy seat, and also sits on RICS Knowledge Board, the Land & Resources Global Board and the East Midlands Regional Board.

Huw Richards joins with more than 20 years’ experience and specializes in the valuation of mineral and waste-management assets, corporate portfolios and individual properties and major sites for a variety of purposes, including compulsory purchase, private funding, loan security, litigation, financial reporting, taxation, mergers, acquisitions and sales. He also has international experience, and spent two years in SLR’s Sydney office.

Michael Hayes focuses on valuation and due diligence advising banks for secured lending purposes as well as clients on the acquisition, disposal and negotiation of land and rights. He has previously held roles at Savills and Innes England.

Alexa Phelps has nearly 10 years’ experience in the sector and has managed a number of client portfolios. These have comprised a variety of unique property assets including concrete batching plants, quarries, brickworks plus waste and recycling facilities.

David Sandbrook said: ‘We are delighted to be joining Carter Jonas at this time and to expand the existing, well respected team. We will be providing specialist minerals and waste valuation and development advice across the firm’s business areas and also utilizing the skills of our colleagues to provide a broader range of strategic advice and services throughout the lifecycle of our mineral and waste clients’ property assets.’
