Call for industry award entries

For a second year Beckhouse Media, publishers of Environment Times, are appealing for entries for their Nature of Industry awards. The awards are for British manufacturing companies and organisations who harbour employees who do their bit for the environment over and above their job description.

In order to qualify for an award, a manufacturing site/organisation must have employees who improve the environment in their own grounds or in the wider community over and above the line of duty.

The awards are presented at the International Clean Up exhibition and conference held at Manchester's G-Mex Centre each April.

Winners last year included Tarmac Quarry Products' Borras Quarry for their donation of a building within their grounds for exclusive use by a local school. They have also funded restoration, provided voluntary on-site assistance and have part-funded a dedicated school worker for the centre. The school has developed the building and grounds into a nature learning centre for its pupils with special needs.

Interested parties should in the first instance contact Duncan on tel: (01257) 474973. They will then be asked to submit an outline of their project in writing and suitable projects will be visited for judging. The deadline for entries is November 2000.
